    OK so 5 stars plus!! This book was fabulous. I found the ending very satisfying. Sager wrote a masterpiece I believe. As a writer myself I think he ticked all the marks of a great novel. I've only read 2 other Riley Sager books but this makes me want to read them all even though I hear there are horror elements which I don't like. Great video!! Well done Heather!!

  • @renee1292

    I'm at the halfway point and thinking, because of Billy's interest and belief in ghosts, he either is a ghost or followed a ghost. I also suspected Russ because he was a third wheel to Ethan and Billy and he had the cammo and orange tent in his sporting goods store, I can definitely see the possibility of Ethan hallucinating the whole thing. I really hope that isn't what it turns out to be. It would be that frowned apart trope in fiction of "it was alla dream." Knowing Riley Sager this could go anywhere!

    Oh my gosh, panic attack! No you are not alone, maybe just not a purple shampoo moment! Yes! I have been waiting for your review of this book! So many people just did not like the pacing and called the book boring. I really liked having all the character's secrets revealed slowly, especially Ethan's. When the camera kept picking up something..... I was scared! I also gave it a five star. I vote for Ruth Ware, but I will enjoy any read along you share! Thanks for sharing!

    I so appreciate all the work it must take to do these videos. I'd love a read-along for Turn of the Key--haven't read it but it's on my shelf. Started reading Middle of the Night yesterday and can't put it down! About 1/2 way now. I am an older/retired gal so no childcare or job to distract me from my obsessive reading LOL YES! I agree with the types of thrillers you like. It's why I prefer psychological domestic suspense. Those unrealistic endings bug me. It's why Daisy Darker annoyed me at the end.

    The ending honestly just killed the whole book. The whole time I was reading I was telling me husband NO MATTER WHAT I’m giving it 5 starts I absolutely love it… also being a full time thriller reader I couldn’t figure out the ending so that made me really like it, but now I know why I couldn’t figure it out is so stupid and I was just expecting it to be anyone else other then the person it was. I just found it ridiculous

Kudos to you for figuring out Daisy was dead, I did not catch the clues and was knocked over when it comes out. I sort of felt cheated and deceived at that. As someone that's not a great reader, I kind of appreciate the juvenile plain straightforward style of writing It makes it easier to understand and follow compared to other writers who use all of these Complex words that quite frankly, no one in the Real world uses it's like the writer is trying too hard and forgets It's the 21st Century an not the 18th century

    Okay Heather, it makes sense. A July video in August. I'm there with you! May I first ask you your reason for the way you arrange your books. It looks like a plan! I have had the most incredible experience from BOTM I think because I am purchasing lots from the backlist. I am flying through The Invitation and loving it, my next is God of the Woods which keeps getting good ratings. I absolutely loved Middle of the Night. When he set those cameras up in the yard....! I am hoping for you that September gives you a choice you will be excited about. Thank you for sharing!! Elizabeth PS I'm getting We Used To Live Here based on your review. Thanks!!

    • @HeathersBookReview
      @HeathersBookReview 11 дней назад

      Haha I’m glad to hear you are there with me! I usually like to keep the colors of the BOTM logo together but then once I got my new bookshelf, I actually started putting books on there that I didn’t like and then the other two closer bookshelves would be books i liked or loved! For example, if someone comes over to our house and wants to borrow a book, I could say something like “anything from those left two shelves I really liked or absolutely loved, where as the third shelf is kind of up in the air, I didn’t love it, but you just might.!” Many people ask why I don’t sell the books I don’t love, but it’s in hopes that my kids will be readers and one day will blow through these, my wishful thinking lol🥰 ohhhh I’ve heard GREAT things for God of the Woods! If you end up liking it I’ll get it in my upcoming box!! Maybe leave a comment once you finish so I know if you liked it or not? OMG I am smiling reading that you are getting We Used to Live Here! That one is going to spook you! And yes the cameras scene of Middle of the Night those scenes were my favorite parts! I’m filming a dedicated review and read with me style video for that later today so I hope to have that up within the next week. As always, thank you so much for your comments and happy reading💖

    ***spoilers*** I love your thoughts on the diary entries! I thought she was covering for her abusive boyfriend. I loved when I found out what was behind the lies in the diary. I thought the characters were well developed. I've just started reading Ruth Ware, this is my 3rd. I like her writing. I was frustrated by the ending and how Conor ended up the hero. He was an abusive murderer and I don't think the women would have been convicted of killing him. Interesting that only the women were left.

      I’m so glad you liked this one! I agree on the well developed characters. I was so hooked with everything going on! I have The Turn of the Key on my shelf and I heard that’s arguably her best so I’m hoping to read it during spooky season 👻 I agree about the ending with Conor too

    One of Kristen Hannah‘s other books, Winter Garden, is the book that took me from a thriller reader to historical fiction reader. I still love a good thriller, but historical fiction is where it’s at!

    Spoiler comment warning: I agree with you that the ending of this book really ruined a lot of the rest of the read. I loved the fact Owen overcame his own social issues, got his job back and his girlfriend back. That part warmed my heart. The part of the ending that upset me was Alicia "hiding her out" - very weird for a psychologist to do. The fact that Alicia knew what was going on the whole time and she doesn't reveal that she knew he didn't do it. Let him sit in jail all that time. I hated Ronan also, but the ending suggested - the last 2 pages that he could have been involved too. Really weird. Plus, the fact that why would Saffyre suddenly go hang out with Alicia for 2 weeks, when she hated the fact that Alicia was cheating with Ronan and ruining his family life. And the whole thing was just so implausible at the end. Very annoying. I love many of her other books. This is the worst. Ughggh!

    I loved this book. It's a slow burn, creepy and being from the UK I can relate to the small dead end town with a mysterious folklore around it.

    The whole thing about her son and the wolves I didn't really mind since it only takes up a few sentences. If it had been a bigger part of the story maybe I'd been questioning it. But also I think it was more about how young children typically get fascinated with animals and want to learn all sorts of basic facts that adults may know but are new to children. Leaving the body is a plot contrivance, but for the situation they found themselves in (based on the thinking she was dead) I don't know what one is to expect. They forage on carrying the corpse? Stick it in the dead car? I don't know, I didn't mind it. I read it as more of a setup for a setting where you lose a bit of your humanity in order to do what you need to do to survive. I do appreciate your perspective though, it gave me things to think about. I do wonder though how you dislike so much about this book, but enjoyed never lie, which speaking about repetitiveness, a character's constant reminders about their love of cashmere are all over. And its twist only works if we accept that the first 2/3rds of the book effectively lied to the reader about one of the characters.

    Heather, I am two years late to Rock, Paper, Scissors and OH MY GOSH what a twist! I also guessed Robin was the author's daughter, but not the husband's first wife. I'm with you and have moved Alice Feeney ahead of Lisa Jewell. Both brilliant! Loved your review! Thank you for sharing. Elizabeth

    This book is less far fetched than a lot of occult thrillers and such. It is far fetched but I would not call it an impossible scenario as we just do not know enough about our world to rule it out.
